Dallas County 72 Hour Hold Laws
The 72 hour booking hold in Dallas County follows Texas state law. Article 17.033 sets the time limits. A misdemeanor arrest without a warrant means release within 24 hours on a bond up to $5,000 if no probable cause finding is made. A felony arrest means release within 48 hours on a bond up to $10,000.
If the state needs more time, a magistrate can extend the hold to 72 hours. This only happens when probable cause has not been found and the prosecution asks for the extension. The request must come from the state. It does not happen on its own.
